Hello,

The ThinkPad T440 14' IPS laptop starts at just 4 lbs — and with a 0.8' profile at its thickest point, is mobile as well as powerful. 14” HD+ Display with Optional Multitouch. Configure your T440 with an HD+ (1600 x 900 resolution) LCD display with high brightness and enjoy a premium visual experience. R/thinkpad: IBM and Lenovo ThinkPad laptop enthusiasts! I can't find it on the BOM for the T440p, but for the T440s, I have FRU 04X3827, which is a 16GB SSD on a M.2 adapter that plugs into a connector in the T440s main board, and the middle connector in your photo looks like the corresponding one. M.2 is a solid-state drive (SSD) form factor primarily used as an operating system boot solution. Lenovo ThinkSystem servers support M.2 drives either with the addition of a supported M.2 adapter or module, or directly on the system board. NGFF 'Next Generation Form Factor' is just what they called the M.2 slot before it was standardized and some places still use it as a keyword for searches. Current Thinkpads: X31, X40, X61T, X61, X201, X220 (i7 IPS), W520 (FHD), T440p (FHD).

I have been planning to add a 240GB/256GB SSD to the spare M.2 Slot on my motherboard (2242) - T440P
I have narrowed down my options to some options:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-TS24 ... ers&sr=1-2
https://www.amazon.co.uk/KingDian-240GB ... ers&sr=1-7
https://www.amazon.co.uk/XuBa-Solid-Lap ... rs&sr=1-57
The XuBA Drive and Kingdian drives are £10 cheaper than the transcend, and all m.2 2242's with SATA 3 interface are more expensive than standard SSD's.Lenovo T440p M.2 SlotLenovo T440p M.2 Slot
I just want to check: A) will all three of these drives work, or will i face dificulties with them working?

Thanks very much.

Greetings,

Running Arch on this mostly great laptop.

Right now, I want to explore using the second slot to install an m.2 SSD, to give me another boot option. My idea is to use this or the 2.5in SSD as a windows + linux installs, utilizing BIOS to choose between them. I am aware of using the optical drive bay as a hard drive option.

I understand there are two slots available: one occupied by the wireless LAN card, the other other free. Is this really true?

Some observations about this:
When I ordered the laptop, Lenovo had no option to configure to buy a m.2 drive. Crucial, a trusted big mfg'er of SSD's, lists no m.2 drive for the laptop. Lenovo.com's search shows no m.2 accessory for the T440p, in fact, few at all for any box. EDIT: the appropriate drive apparently is 42mm, which is less common it seems, but readily available from Transcend.

I am also concerned about Lenovo's whitelisting of accessories.

I would appreciate any hints, comments, or links regarding these questions, especially from T440 owners.
Happy Holidays,
Steve.
