The months-long strike at Cascades Casino in Kamloops is not going to have a major impact on the bottom line for the city as it prepares the 2019 budget.

Under normal circumstances, the city could be losing up to $200,000 a month due to the work stoppage.

However, the Director of Finance Kathy Humphrey says they got a lot more revenue from Chances Casino, which almost leveled the playing field.

“Obviously, the overall revenue for the city from gaming revenue is down a little bit, but the Chances Casino picked up a lot of the business from Cascades Casino being on strike,” she said.

“Overall as the city, we are estimating it’s probably only down a couple hundred thousand dollars for the year if in fact the casino gets running again shortly.”

Close to 700 members of the B-C Government Employees Union will be voting on a tentative settlement over the coming days which could end the strike at Cascades Casino.
